On the Road

It is never too late to travel, to choose adventure, and to step into a new chapter with purpose. Jim and I are moving toward a season of full time RV living, and for me, this dream is about more than going from place to place. It is about meaningful travel, shared memories, and the simple beauty of being fully present along the way. As we begin this journey, we are not just chasing destinations. We are chasing connection, freedom, and a life that feels more intentional.

For many, full time RV living becomes a way to embrace meaningful travel experiences and create a life centered around freedom and connection.

We are closer to this dream than ever. We already have the camper, the truck, and the desire to go. Our hope is to move into full time travel after we finish a few projects and make some final preparations. What stands between us and the road is not whether this life is possible. It is the real life work of preparing for it well.

The name Chasing The Sun has always carried deep meaning for me. Inspired by The Croods, it represents hope, movement, and the choice to keep reaching for light and life, even when the road ahead feels uncertain. That idea feels especially meaningful in this season of life. Whether someone is starting earlier, nearing retirement, or stepping into a fresh beginning later than expected, travel has a way of reminding us that we are not stuck. There is still room for growth, wonder, and meaningful adventure.

For many people, the thought of RV living brings both excitement and hesitation. It may sound freeing, but it can also raise questions about timing, comfort, and whether it is too late to begin. The truth is that this chapter can be one of the richest times to explore. With every mile, there is an opportunity to let go of routine, welcome something new, and discover how much beauty can be found in the journey itself. The road ahead holds more than places to visit. It holds experiences that can reshape the way we live, connect, and remember what matters most.

RV Life

Full time RV living changes the way we think about home, freedom, and what truly matters. The RV lifestyle is not just about travel. It is about choosing simplicity, making room for meaningful moments, and building a life shaped by experience instead of routine. From the gentle sway of trees outside the window to the laughter of family around a campfire, RV life creates everyday memories that feel rich, personal, and lasting.

We know this lifestyle is possible because we have lived it before. Years ago, Jim and I spent a season of life living in an RV with our family, and that experience showed us that this kind of life can be done. What makes this chapter different is that life looks different now. Our circumstances have changed, our perspective has changed, and the road feels meaningful in a new way.

The Freedom of Full Time RV Living

One of the greatest gifts of RV living is the freedom to travel at your own pace. In a full time RV life, home moves with you, which makes it possible to explore scenic places, visit national parks, and pause for the kind of simple adventures that often mean the most. Whether it is a quiet afternoon at a scenic overlook or an unexpected stop at a hidden gem along the road, each day brings new opportunities for meaningful travel experiences and deeper connection.

The RV lifestyle also reminds us that the journey is not only about places. It is about people. Fellow travelers, campground hosts, and local communities all become part of the story. These connections add heart to the road and turn travel into something more than a checklist of destinations. Over time, full time RV living teaches us that some of the best parts of travel are the shared experiences, the conversations, and the relationships that make each mile more meaningful.

One memory that still stands out to me is from those earlier RV years, when we met a traveling family from another country and shared a simple conversation that stayed with me long after the trip ended. It reminds me that some of the smallest moments with people we meet along the way can become some of the most lasting memories.

Worth the Stop

One of the most meaningful parts of travel is not always the major attraction or the scenic destination. Often, it is the quiet moments along the way that stay with us the longest. A peaceful sunset, a spontaneous conversation with a fellow traveler, or a simple pause to take in the view can become the most memorable part of the journey. These small experiences are often what turn ordinary travel into meaningful travel experiences.

Why Meaningful Travel Experiences Matter

When we slow down and truly notice where we are, travel begins to feel richer and more personal. We are no longer rushing from one stop to the next. We are making space for connection, reflection, and gratitude. That is where some of the best travel memories are made. The laughter around a table, the stories shared during a quiet evening, and the joy of simply being present often matter more than any crowded attraction or tightly packed itinerary.

That is one reason this dream matters so much to me. I want to slow down enough to notice more sunrises, more sunsets, more quiet mornings, more shared meals, more conversations, and more scenery. I do not want to rush past the beauty of life anymore. I want to be present enough to really see it.

These pauses also remind us that meaningful travel does not have to be complicated. It can happen during a walk in a national park, a visit to a small local café, or an afternoon spent exploring a farmers market or scenic overlook. Each stop becomes an opportunity to learn something, feel something, and remember what matters most. That is part of the beauty of travel in this new chapter of life. It gives us the chance to slow down, look closer, and discover that some places are truly worth the stop because of how they make us feel.

Plan the Adventure

Planning a trip does not have to feel overwhelming. In fact, one of the best parts of travel is the chance to dream about where the road might lead next. Whether you are planning your first RV trip or exploring adventure travel for all ages, the most important step is to begin with a simple vision. Think about the places you want to see, the pace you want to keep, and the kind of experiences you want to have. A meaningful trip starts with knowing what matters most to you.

Planning an RV Trip Made Simple

A flexible travel plan can help you enjoy both structure and spontaneity. You might map out a general route, choose a few key stops, and still leave room for scenic detours, local discoveries, and unplanned moments along the way. This kind of approach works especially well for RV travel, where freedom and flexibility are part of the experience.

A simple way to begin planning an RV trip is to choose one destination, map a flexible route, and allow extra time for unexpected stops along the way.

Travel planning does not need to be perfect. It only needs to give you enough direction to move forward with confidence.

Of course, planning this kind of life also comes with real questions. Some of the biggest ones involve timing, health, downsizing, and what to do with the home you leave behind. Downsizing can feel especially overwhelming because it forces you to decide what truly matters now and what you want to carry into the future. That is part of the planning process too.

Adventure may begin with a dream, but it still has to be lived in real life. Sometimes that means making thoughtful decisions, being willing to adjust, and taking one step at a time toward the life you want. It also helps to learn from others. Online RV groups, travel forums, and experienced travelers can offer useful ideas, campground suggestions, and practical advice that make the journey easier.

As you move through the planning process, remember that it is never too late to travel. Whether you are preparing for a cross country RV trip or a simple visit to a nearby state park, each step brings you closer to a new adventure. Start small, stay open, and trust that the road will reveal new possibilities as you go.

Reflections on RV Life and the Road Ahead

As the day comes to a close, time around the campfire often becomes one of the most meaningful parts of RV life. It is a chance to slow down, share stories, laugh together, and reflect on the day. These quiet moments remind us that adventure does not always have to be bold or dramatic. Sometimes the best parts of travel are the simple ones, like sharing a meal, enjoying the evening air, and reconnecting with what matters most.

One of the most honest parts of the RV lifestyle is learning to appreciate both the joys and the challenges that come with it. Some days are filled with scenic views, new discoveries, and unforgettable memories. Other days bring fatigue, uncertainty, or unexpected setbacks. That is part of the journey too. Full time RV living is not about chasing perfection. It is about living with more freedom, more presence, and a deeper appreciation for the experiences that shape us along the way.

This dream also carries a sense of purpose. There comes a time when you begin to realize that life is meant to be lived more fully, not simply postponed for someday. That is part of what makes this new chapter feel so meaningful. It is not just about travel. It is about saying yes to adventure, presence, and the experiences that make life feel rich and memorable.

Every new chapter comes with something to leave behind and something new to step into. That can feel both exciting and uncertain. Even so, I believe there is something powerful about moving forward with hope and intention, trusting that the road ahead still holds beauty, meaning, and moments worth embracing.

It is never too late to travel, especially for those considering traveling later in life. The road ahead still holds meaningful adventures waiting to be experienced.
